He’s Phony Enough, He Lies Enough, and Doggone It, People Loath Him
Wall Street Journal columnist Kimberley Strassel today takes former comic and now comically phony U.S. Sen. Al Franken (D-Minn.) to task for his shameless exploitation of rape allegations as a means to promote anti-arbitration legislation that his personal injury bar pals are eager to have enacted.
Strassel’s “The Senate’s Lawsuit Factory” points out that Franken “received some $900,000 in campaign contributions from lawyers” in 2008, presumably more than they gave him when he was playing “Stuart Smalley” and other comedic characters of his imaginative making back in his Saturday Night Live days.
In any event, the case Franken flogged in trying to better feather the nests of his personal injury lawyer patrons was recently tried in a Houston federal court, where a jury of the plaintiff’s peers returned a unanimous verdict for the defendants after deliberating less than a day.
