‘Dishonorable’ St. Louis Coupon Settlement Challenged
The shameless class-action coupon settlement approved by a plaintiff-friendly St. Louis judge last year and cited among Dishonorable Mentions in the latest Judicial Hellholes report is being appealed. Crusading lawyer Ted Frank, of the Center for Class Action Fairness, has filed the appeal in the case that targeted A.G. Edwards. City of St. Louis Circuit Court Judge Angela T. Quigless approved the settlement, giving lawyers at Milberg and other firms $21 million in cash while leaving respective class members to collect $20 and a few coupons redeemable for about another $25.
While entirely righteous, Frank’s appeal will constitute an uphill battle. We’ll keep you posted.
