Madison County Shatters Asbestos Lawsuits Record
Madison County, Illinois, currently ranked as the #3 Judicial Hellhole nationwide, managed in 2012 to shatter its old record for newly filed asbestos lawsuits.
According to coverage by the Madison-St. Clair Record, “[f]igures from Madison County Circuit Clerk Mark Von Nida show that 1,563 asbestos lawsuits were filed last year, an increase of more than 600 cases from 2011 when 953 suits were filed.”
As stated in the 2012-2013 Judicial Hellholes report, “there simply is no justification for a jurisdiction with .0008 percent of the nation’s population to handle 25% or more of its asbestos cases. Even worse is the fact that only about 1 in 10 of the county’s asbestos cases are filed by people who actually live or work there, and asbestos claims comprise roughly 60% of all lawsuits seeking more than $50,000.”
This mind-boggling new record should convince doubters that shameless Madison County has earned its continuing reputation as a Judicial Hellhole.
