ATRA Celebrates TiPAC Victory in Iowa!
This week the Iowa legislature unanimously passed H.F. 563, the Transparency in Private Attorney Contracts (TiPAC) legislation. The law will bring needed transparency to the process of the state’s occasional hiring of outside counsel. Gov. Terry Branstad is expected to sign the legislation within days.
ATRA first proposed new voluntary standards designed to improve government transparency and accountability when state attorneys general hire outside counsel to litigate on behalf of state residents in 2007. Iowa joins a list of several states to pass such reform, including Arizona, which most recently passed a transparency bill in 2011.
